Marketing yourself as an Online Business Manager (OBM) can feel overwhelming—especially if you’re worried about coming across as pushy or salesy. But here’s the truth: the best marketing doesn’t feel like marketing at all—it feels like leadership.

In this episode of The OBM Show, I’m breaking down exactly how to position yourself as an in-demand OBM without constantly promoting yourself. From using the power of strategic questioning (yes, talking less can actually attract more clients) to stepping into your OBM alter ego, I’ll show you how to confidently market yourself and attract premium clients who already see your value.

Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your positioning, this episode will help you:

  • Shift from selling yourself to leading with authority
  • Use The Coaching Habit method to ask the right questions that make potential clients see your value instantly
  • Understand why Beyoncé’s Sasha Fierce alter ego is the perfect strategy for stepping into confidence as an OBM
  • Learn why the less you say, the more clients trust you (yes, silence is your secret marketing weapon!)
  • Position yourself as an OBM leader who leaves businesses better than you found them

Why Most OBMs Struggle with Marketing (And How to Fix It)

Let’s be real—marketing yourself doesn’t always come naturally.

You know you’re great at what you do. You know your work is valuable. But when it comes time to actually put yourself out there and attract clients, you start overthinking.

  • What if I come across as too pushy?
  • What if I don’t sound confident enough?
  • What if no one responds?

The biggest mistake OBMs make is thinking marketing is about talking more. The reality? It’s about listening more.

That’s why The Coaching Habit by Michael Bungay Stanier changed the way I do business. Instead of trying to “convince” people to work with me, I started asking better questions—and it completely shifted how clients saw my value.

Here’s what that looks like:

✅ When a client says, “My team is all over the place,” instead of responding with solutions, ask:
“What would it look like if your team was running smoothly?”

✅ When someone says, “I’m drowning in systems and processes,” ask:
“What’s one thing that, if fixed, would make everything easier?”

✅ When a business owner says, “I need help managing my operations,” ask:
“What’s the real challenge for you in managing operations right now?”

See the difference? Instead of pitching your services, you’re guiding the conversation like a leader. And when you do that, potential clients start realizing, Oh wow, I need an OBM!—without you having to sell yourself at all.

Your OBM Alter Ego: Why You Need a ‘Sasha Fierce’ for Your Business

Let’s talk about Beyoncé for a second.

Beyoncé is known for being calm, quiet, and private in her personal life. But when she’s on stage? She transforms into Sasha Fierce—her ultra-confident, powerful alter ego.

As an OBM, you need your own version of Sasha Fierce.

If you struggle with confidence when promoting yourself, showing up online, or networking, create an OBM alter ego who embodies how you want to show up.

Ask yourself:

  • How does my most confident OBM self introduce herself?
  • How would she act in a discovery call?
  • How does she engage on social media or at networking events?

Maybe your alter ego is The CEO Whisperer, The Strategic Fixer, or The Calm in the Chaos. Whatever it is, lean into it in your branding, sales calls, and client interactions.

I used to get nervous on discovery calls—until I started stepping into my OBM alter ego. Now, I show up as the version of myself that already knows she’s an expert. And you can do the same.
